Headingley Cricket Ground in Leeds needed its floodlights ready for the opening match of the season. Our rope access team replaced broken lamps across all four floodlight masts and cleaned all 400 lights, working at the top of the masts high above the ground.
The work was carried out by IRATA-certified rope access technicians alongside our rope access electricians, with no need for a large MEWP on the pitch or surrounds.
Access to the lights was particularly challenging because of the horizontal bolts along the stems of the masts, which made traditional climbing methods slow.
The work had to be finished in time for the first match of the season.
We used a clip stick, which let us clip ropes and carabiners 5 to 6 metres above head height. This gave us a safe and quick way up the masts to the lights, keeping downtime to a minimum.
All lamps and lenses were replaced and cleaned, and the floodlights were fully working for the first match of the season. See more of our rope access case studies.
