Leonardo Royal Hotel St Paul’s in London needed maintenance on the aspirating smoke detection system in its atrium. The sampling points were fixed to the underside of steel beams spanning the glass atrium roof, high above the hotel lobby.
To avoid disrupting guests, all of the work was carried out at night by our IRATA-certified rope access technicians.

The project presented several challenges, including:
Access Complexity: The aspirators were located on the underside of steel beams, requiring climbing through the roof space.
Safety Concerns: Working at height and in confined spaces demanded rigorous safety protocols.
Minimising Disruption: The hotel’s operations could not be interrupted, necessitating night-time work.
To address these challenges, we employed advanced rope access techniques and a carefully planned approach:
Night-Time Work: All maintenance was carried out at night to ensure minimal disruption to the hotel’s guests and staff.
Steel Framework Climbing: Our IRATA-certified technicians climbed the steel framework to access the aspirators safely and efficiently.
Drilling and Testing: The process involved drilling out old aspirators, testing the system to confirm successful operation, and repeating the procedure at multiple locations across the roof.
This meticulous approach ensured the hotel’s fire suppression system was fully operational and compliant with safety standards.
